Google’s GBuy to be released next week?

We’ve heard the rumors about Google’s up and coming rival to PayPal, GBuy, and many people have been eagerly awaiting it to move into an open beta. It may be almost here, with Google possibly
this week.

GBuy will be unique from other payment services in that it will be integrated as part of a search, so that GBuy supporting vendors would get priority. Though the details are not fully apparent, Google does have a battle ahead of them, with PayPal having a user base of more than 100 million. Google Penalizing Sites Running Coop?

There seems to be a growing number of webmasters who run Digital Point’s Coop on their site seeing heavy penalities placed on their sites’ SERPs in Google. Is it a coincindence, related to recent Google heaves or is it a definite Coop based penalty? Analysts: MSN-Yahoo Merger Would Challenge Google

Google’s dominance in search, coupled with its software-related forays, may drive Microsoft to acquire Yahoo or eBay to become the top internet revenue earner, writes MediaPost, citing a report by Merrill Lynch analysts. Google-backed FON begins global wireless Internet community push

Spanish firm FON began a push this week to create a global wireless Internet community made up of people that could earn cash by turning home or business Internet connections into “hot spots.”

FON said on Monday it would practically give away one million Internet routers that would let hot spot owners share in small daily fees charged to roaming computer users………..More At…..

Google moving data from Writely?

Today Google is performing “maintenance” to Writely that will be finished sometime this afternoon.  All your documents remain read-only during this period — which got me thinking.

They obviously didn’t take down their servers to do hardware or OS upgrades, otherwise nothing would be available — it has to be related to moving data.  The reason they would lock the files and keep them read-only would be to keep everything in sync……………..More At……..

French Google Earth rival a hit

NEARLY five million users have visited “Geoportail,” the French answer to Google Earth, in the first day of the site’s operation, the portal’s developers say.

The flood of traffic to the site, which offers offering high-resolution aerial imagery of France, has meant only about one in five has been able to connect to Geoportail (www.geoportail.fr), developed by the state-funded National Geographic Institute (IGN), in a bid to rival the success of the US pioneer in the field, Google Earth………..More At……….

Lowest Price Keeps Travelers Searching The Web

comScore Network recently released an analysis of the online travel market in the U.S., finding that nearly 150 million consumers visited a travel Web site in 2005, a 35-percent increase over the previous year. Annual online travel revenues exceeded $60 billion in 2005, representing a 20-percent increase versus 2004, with all travel segments posting gains. 

Sara Stevens, director of comScore Travel Solutions, said “The Web is extraordinarily well-suited to helping consumers make travel plans, and increases in home broadband penetration should continue to fuel growth in the online travel sector.” ……….More At……..

Google to test display, rich-media ads

Google will launch a public test to show display and video ads on Google Video, another step in the search giant’s slow exploration of graphical ads on its own services, according to sources familiar with the plans.

Possibly as early as Thursday or Friday, Google plans to announce it will stream for free some premium videos on Google Video which are normally fee-based, and accompany them with a banner-like ad and a video ad. …………More At……
